Cypriots have always been great traders. Now the world is their oyster

Being a trader is rooted in the genes of most Cypriots.

Stelios Haji-Ioannou for example created EasyJet – taking on the major European carriers and building one of the largest and most successful airlines in Europe.

The Cypriot domestic market is facing a retailing onslaught from the likes of Amazon.  But every street has two sides.

Where are the Cypriot entrepreneurs who are capitalising on the internet to grow their markets?  The playing field is level, so the opportunities are endless.

Cyprus has a population of under one million.  The UK – one of the softest targets for an internet business – has a population of around 62 million.  The USA – with the biggest online shopping take up on the globe – has a population of around 310 million.  And it’s estimated there are over 510 million English speaking people on the planet.

Internet shopping is growing very fast.  With an online presence and modern logistics, there’s no reason why Cypriot businesses shouldn’t be looking beyond the island’s shores to prosper.
